Colon Cancer Screening

Screening is age based:

50-75 years- All patients in this age group need to be screened to prevent colon cancer.

75-85 years- Screening is only recommended on patients who are not up-to-date on a case-by-case basis.

>85 years- screening is not recommended

 

Testing Options recommended by the U.S. Preventive Service Task Force include:

  1. Colonoscopy every 10 years
  2. Stool testing every year

    High-sensitivity guaiac-based fecal testing

    Or

    fecal immunochemical (FIT) test

  1. Flex sigmoidoscopy every 5 years with interval stool testing
